Trinity Basketball

Trinity Grammar School is the largest Anglican Boys' day and boarding School in NSW with an enviable reputation and tradition for serving the educational needs of boys and young men over a number of generations.  The School has campuses located in Strathfield (Preparatory School), Summer Hill (Senior, Middle and Junior School), Lewisham (Infants School) and Pine Bluff (Outdoor Education Centre on the Abercrombie River).  Since its founding in 1913, Trinity has forged a reputation for outstanding academic results, a caring pastoral programme and an emphasis on both traditional and community sports.  Trinity has an enrolment of some 2000 boys.

Basketball has only been a mainstream sport at Trinity since 1969. Over the past two decades Basketball has flourished to become the highest participated sport within the School. Over the three campuses there are 60 teams playing Basketball - 44 teams in the Middle and Senior School, 8 teams in the Preparatory School and 8 teams in the Junior School.

Since 1973 when Basketball become an official sport within the Associated Schools of New South Wales (CAS) the 1sts have won 10 CAS Premierships: 1974 (undefeated), 1988 (undefeated), 1990 (undefeated), 1991 (undefeated), 2002, 2003, 2004 (undefeated), 2009, 2010 (undefeated) and 2011 (undefeated). In 1991 and 2003 Trinity reached the NSW All Schools Semi-Finals after winning the NSW Combined Independent Schools Cup. There have also been three previous successful U.S.A. Development Tours (2002, 2005, 2008).

Numerous players at Trinity have gone on to be selected in elite teams. Blake Borgia (class of 2004) went on to play in the National Basketball League with the Sydney Kings in 2007/08. Ben Wetherbee (class of 2007) headed over to the United States and is currently playing Division 3 Basketball with Knox College in Illinois. Phil Chircu (class of 2011) was selected to represent Australia at the inaugural World under 17 Championships in Hamburg, Germany where the team finished a credible sixth place.
